S.D.CH - STUDENÁ VLNA | READING FROM A NEW BOOK
A public reading of one of the most important prosaic works of a writer, actor, puppet actor, dramatist, musician and artist S.d.Ch. The text is a bitter description of the horror of manhood and a remorseless audit of the world and the writer's personal story.

KAREL STIBRAL, SINCE WHEN WE LIKE WILD AND DESOLATE SCENERIES?
The lecture will try to explain why we like wild nature and desolate types of sceneries or objects. The sceneries favoured today used to be considered uninteresting or even ugly. Our admiration for rugged rocks or thick wildwood as well as for the disappearing works of man in nature is quite recent and based on a new approach towards nature and monuments just as on the change in aesthetic preferences.

PETR POKORNÝ, SCREWING AS A METHOD OR A DRILL IS DRIVEN INTO THE MUD TO DRAW OUT THE SEDIMENTARY DEPOSITS / "TAIGA" LECTURE
A method of the paleobotanic research, whose results have proven, for the area of Dokesko, a hypothesis based on biogeographic and geobotanic data (such as the presence of endemics and exclavic boreocontintental relicts). It appears that the region is an island of the taiga biome, pushed the southern- and westernmost from the area of European boreal forests. It is, simultaneously, an analogy of the boreocontinental taiga and a relict, continuously preserved, of the forests of the early Holocene.

VÁCLAV CÍLEK, SHAPES OF ROCKS/ "TAIGA" LECTURE
There is perhaps no other rock that can take on so many shapes as the sandstone. Since the times of K. H. Mácha or C. D. Friedrich it is often described, depicted in drawings and photographed. In this lecture we reject the aesthetics and delve instead into the origins and development of the sandstone relief.

PETR MEDUNA, MEDIEVAL COUNTRYSIDE - SOMETHING WE CONSTRUCTED / "TAIGA" LECTURE
Medieval countryside is a construct – the term "countryside" was never used (nor was the term "medieval", for that matter). Our view is given by the antiquity and the mediterranean typology cannot be straightforwardly applied to Europe behind the Alps. The archaic, "barbarian" understanding of countryside is surviving to this day - as opposed to the antique and "cultural".

JIŘÍ SÁDLO, A COUNTRYSIDE WHERE NOTHING HAPPENS / LECTURE
The region of Doksy (the countryside between Doksy, Česká Lípa, Mimoň, Osečná, Kuřivody, Bakov a Bělá pod Bezdězem) is a relict region of the lowland taiga. Nine years of its stability shows that this country is driven from the perspectivity of the past. Pine ecosystems haven't changed here for 9000 years, just from the moment of its origination. They didn't react to the Holocene changes of the climate, they haven't been changed by intensification of the forestry or clearcut management. They created their sterile arenic podsoles, eliminated attempts of farming and building big cities. Here, taiga is eternal and immune, thanks to its ability to heal from cultural interventions.
